- For excellence in design of a contemporary Woven fabric for Menswear or Womenswear fashion, using majority wool or luxury fibres

W4 JOHN FOSTER OF ENGLAND AWARD:
For 1st Year Students Only
- A Woven fabric in any fibre or blend
The prizes will be awarded at the judges’ discretion for entries showing the best combination of colour and weave

PRINTED TEXTILES:
P1 TEXTILE FINISHERS’ ASSOCIATION AWARD
: - A Printed fashion textile design on any base fabric - The design should be drawn up on repeat, and method of printing and proposed dyestuff clearly stated. A printed fabric sample may be submitted but is not obligatory.
AWARDS: £250 1st Prize / £150 2nd Prize / £100 3rd Prize
P2 PRESTIGIOUS TEXTILES AWARD:
- A Printed Interiors textile design for the Domestic Market. The design should be drawn in repeat, using no more than 16 colours and should be suitable for printing onto a 54” wide fabric, by the rotary screen method. - The design should be suitable for domestic curtains, cushions or fabric blinds, and the proposed end use must be clearly indicated.

PLUS – A week’s Placement at Prestigious Textiles’ Design Studio in Accrington for selected entrant.

S1 WOOLS OF NEW ZEALAND AWARD:
NEW – Surface pattern design for Domestic or Contract furnishing market, suitable for carpets, rugs, floor coverings and furniture etc.

ECOLOGICAL PRODUCTION:
E1 CLOTHWORKERS’ FOUNDATION AWARD:
- A fabric for Fashion or Interiors which addresses Ecology issues – an outline proposal must be included.

FASHION GARMENT TEXTILE:
F1 ASSOCIATION OF FASHION & TEXTILE COURSES AWARD:
NEW – A Fashion fabric, which may include a combination of processes, including embroidery, designed for a specific outfit or garment collection. Fashion illustration of proposed garments should be included.

SPECIAL AWARDS:
(Judged from all submissions from above categories)
‘TWIST’ AWARD: £200
For a constructed textile in any of the above categories using over 50% of luxury fibres (wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca etc).
THE DESIGNERS’ GUILD PLAQUE
(Winner announced at Design Seminar) Awarded to an individual or an institution for outstanding work.
‘PREMIÈRE VISION’ AWARD
(4 winners announced at Design Seminar)

Selected from 1st Prize winners of all categories and awarded for ingenuity of entry.

ENTRANCE FEES
All sections, except W4 and K3 (1st year students only) are open to independent designers, designers employed in the UK textile industry and students from UK Universities and Colleges. All competitors must be resident in the United Kingdom.
An entrance fee of £10 per entry is payable by independent designers and those employed in the industry.
The entrance fee for registered students is £5 for the first entry and £2.50 for each additional entry from the same student.
Cheques and postal orders should be crossed and made payable to ‘The Bradford Textile Society’.
Entrance fees should be submitted at the same time as the entries, together with an Entry Form, which can be downloaded here.
FORM OF SUBMISSION
Each entry should be mounted on boards (A1 maximum size) with a maximum of 4 boards per entry.
Competitor’s full name, university, college, studio or company address and Section of the entry MUST be clearly marked on the label and stuck on the REVERSE of each board.
A completed Registration Form should also be attached to each entry with a paper clip.

Each entry submitted to the Competition must comply with the conditions stated in the selected Section and should, in all cases, consist of:
- A MAIN SAMPLE (clearly labelled as such) which may be supplemented by not more than 3 alternative colourways or development samples.
- TECHNICAL DETAILS – complete and accurate processing details for the main sample only.
(The Society will hold these in the strictest confidence)

- Weave, draft & lifting plan (graph for Jacquards)

KNITTED TEXTILES
- Machine type and gauge
- Yarn details (counts & compositions)
- Weft knitted fabrics – 1 repeat shown as a stitch diagram or graph plus colour / feeder sequence
- Warp knitted fabrics – 1 repeat of lapping diagrams with guide bar colour & threading order
- Fabric weight in gm/m for full width fabrics only
- Brief outline of fabric finishing & proposed end use
PRINTED TEXTILES
- Method of printing with details of no. of screens or rollers
- Palette of colours relevant to the Main sample
- Any special fabric finishing treatments eg. devoré
- Dimensions of design repeat in cms
- Description & composition of the proposed base fabric
- Type of dyestuffs used
- Proposed end use
EMBROIDERED TEXTILES
- Details of fabrics employed (weights & compositions)
- Details of threads employed (beads etc)
- Description of techniques used including any special finishing
- For machine embroidery:- machine and stitch type
COMBINED PROCESSES
- Full technical details appropriate to the techniques and processes combined, using the previous guidelines
ECOLOGICAL PRODUCTION
- Details of any recycled materials employed
- Method of construction using previous guidelines
- Written proposal outlining sustainability of production
JUDGING
The judges’ decision shall in all cases be final and binding. The judges reserve the right to satisfy themselves of the authenticity of any work.
If an entry is considered to be an infringement of the Conditions of Entry it will be disqualified without refund. |
